Chris Wieburg

Hi, I’m Chris Wieburg.

I’m an IT and network professional based in Columbia, Missouri, where my wife Carrie and I settled in late 2024 after more than two decades in Bloomington, Illinois.

I grew up in Pekin, Illinois, and studied Computer Science at Eureka College, where I also played four years of basketball. I’ve been working in technology ever since, and these days my work centers on network administration and operations, Microsoft 365, and keeping systems secure and running smoothly. I’ve been building web pages since long before it was cool to call it “web development,” and this site is the latest chapter, rebuilt after sitting untouched for far too long.

Away from the keyboard, I’m a sports fan through and through: the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears, University of Illinois Fighting Illini, Illinois State Redbirds, and Missouri Tigers. I’m a newer Tigers fan since moving to Missouri, but my heart stays with the Illini and Redbirds, so I’m cheering for Mizzou unless they’re playing either of them. I also like traveling, movies, music, video games, and board and card games.

College years

I graduated from Eureka College in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Coming from Pekin Community High School, a much larger school, I wanted somewhere smaller, and I liked Eureka’s term system over the usual semesters. It was also close to home, which meant my family could come to my basketball games and I could get to my brother’s games too.

I didn’t declare a minor, but I took business courses along the way to round out my skills for the workplace. Most of my major was programming, but I leaned toward the systems side and troubleshooting, which turned out to be a good preview of my career. Outside of class, I played four years of basketball, was a member of the Sigma Zeta math and science honor society for three years, and worked as a computer lab monitor, my first hands-on experience supporting users and machines. My most memorable years were the three I spent with the guys of Lower B. Eureka is also the alma mater of Ronald Reagan, in case you needed one more reason to look it up.
